Diwali - Hindu Festival of Lights on the Granton Gas Holder
The most famous Hindu Festival of Lights Diwali is a colourful celebration of the victory of good over evil.
Thanks to multicoloured decorations and lights and a positive message it has become popular all over the world,
going beyond religious frames.
Diwali has been present in Edinburgh for several years late October or early November through the Lord Provost and Edinburgh Diwali charity.
In India, it is celebrated several days. In Scotland Diwali is kicking off the winter festival season.

Community Christmas Carol Concert at The Granton Gas Holder
Over a hundred people came to Edinburgh College’s open Christmas Event at The Granton Gas Holder. Carol singing with the choir (Edinburgh College Chamber Choir), Christmas readings, live music by Clarinet Quartet,mince pies and mulled wine filled this special, community celebration. Festive meeting was organised 9th Dec 2021 by Creative Industries at Edinburgh College and Edinburgh College Music, Music Business & Sound Production.

COP26 illumination of The Granton Gas Holder
The “Blue planet” tones influenced Granton Gas Holder lighting in October and November 2021, while 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (26th), referred to as COP26, in Glasgow.
The COP26 conclusions called for accelerated energy decarbonisation, faster greenhouse gas emissions cuts and more financial help for poorer countries in climate purposes. The findings were less strict than some activists expected and were accompanied by great protest of young people around the world.

Hidden Doors Festival to … Granton Gas Holder

In the openwork shadow of Victorian Granton Gas tower at the day time and in it’s bright light at night, very popular outdoor “Hidden Door” festival 2021 took place on mystery Granton Gasworks area between 15 and 19 September. As Edinburgh Evening News reported, the event let show “at least 30 graduates, four site artists, eight dance groups and two theatre companies, highlighting some of the best emerging talent in Scotland. ” Artist, musicians, theatre and film makers every summer captivates the audience with their words, their bodies, music and wide art shows. World Pancreatic Cancer Day illumination on Granton Gas Holder

The third Thursday of November is World Pancreatic Cancer Day. On this day, 18th Nov 2021, Granton Gas Tower in Edinburgh made the night sky purple to help bring more awareness about the symptoms and dangers of the disease and the need of early identification of pancreatic cancer – as every cancer. World Pancreatic Cancer Day is a part of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month created to educate and to put pressure on governments and us individually, to prevent millions of deaths that can be avoided each year.

Pride Edinburgh 2021 lights at The Granton Gas Holder
The Rainbow of Pride appeared on our Granton Gas Holder 13.06.2021 as the physical parade was cancelled due to Covid-19. LGBTQI+ Community have been organising the huge Pride Edinburgh event – which typically attracts around 15,000 people - for 25 years, but the celebration of the round anniversary had to be postponed to another year.

Purple Day 2022 on Granton Gas Tower

Edinburgh Castle, King’s Theatre, St Andrew’s House, Stockbridge Church and of course Granton Gas Holder were among 46 places locally and much more – worldwide - illuminated in purple colour in the weekend of 26th March. Purple Day it is an international annual initiative to bring more awareness about epilepsy – condition of the brain. On this day people all over the world have events and wearing purple cloths. As reported by Epilepsy Scotland organisation, in Scotland 55,000 people are affected by epilepsy.

Story Valley at The Granton Gas Holder
Edinburgh College and The City of Edinburgh Council hosted the first “offline” meeting of the Erasmus project “Story Valley” on 27-29th October 2021. The guests came to Edinburgh – the founder of the UNESCO Cities of Literature from three other European UNESCO Cities of Literature: Leuuwarden in Netherlands, Ljubljana in Slovenia and Nottingham in Great Britain to discuss improving literacy level among vocational schools' students in Europe and, at the same time, getting to know each other’s heritage and cultures. The Story Valley project received an Erasmus grant for 3 years. Story Valley partners while their time in Edinburgh also visited Edinburgh College to explore potential collaborations and… illuminated Granton Gas Holder, of course.
